A Sales Funnel is a series of web pages and emails that lead a prospect down a very narrow path so the prospect can be very focused on the message someone is communicating. The message can be the value of buying a specific product and/or service or the message can be focused on the value of joining a company to promote their products and/or services.

The importance of the Sales Funnel is that it is VERY FOCUSED so that prospects are not confused.

The problem with using only website and not using sales funnels and lead capture pages is that it doesn’t allow for “Targeted Marketing”.

The importance of “Targeted Marketing” is that it allows you to make a particular prospect feel that you are marketing specifically to them which then will increase the likelihood that the they will buy your products or services.

Targeted Marketing is CRITICAL because the needs of one potential customer could be dramatically different than the needs of another potential customer.

If you are not using Sales Funnels and only using a website to try to sell ALL of your products/services to EVERYONE, then the average person will very likely get confused because your website is trying to appeal to everyone. There’s a very important saying in sales about confusion which is:

A Confused mind says NO!

In contrast, if you use a Sales Funnel that is very specific (the message on your web pages and also in the emails) to the needs of a specific target market, then that market will be a lot more likely to buy your products or services.

That is why very successful marketers will use MORE than 1 Sales Funnel where EACH Sales Funnel is targeted toward a DIFFERENT type of prospect

What is a Sales Funnel and Why Should You Care?

What are the components of an effective Sales Funnel?

There are typically 3 key components to an effective Sales Funnel:

  1. First there is what is called a ‘Lead Capture Page’.
  2. Next there is an Email Campaign (a series of emails spread over time).
  3. Then there is a ‘Sales Page’ or a specific page on your website.

A ‘Lead Capture Page’ is a web page that typically has the following:

  1. A Great Headline
  2. A Large Video and/or very compelling visuals and text
  3. A FORM for prospects to enter their contact information

The key thing with a ‘Lead Capture Page’ is that it won’t allow prospects to get more information (i.e. prospects won’t get the Email Campaign or get access to the Sales Page or specific web page) without the prospect entering their contact information in the form on the Lead Capture Page.

Why Are Lead Capture Pages Critical?

Lead Capture pages (also known as Landing Pages) are the heart and soul of marketing lead generation efforts. A good lead capture page will target a particular audience. Creating landing pages allows you to target your audience, offer them something of value, and convert a higher percentage of your visitors into leads, while also capturing information about who they are and what they’ve converted on.

The Fortune is in The Follow-Up

Getting someone to give you their contact information on a lead capture page is only the first step in the Sales Funnel Process. If you can get approximately 15% of the people you send to your Lead Capture Page to enter their contact information, your email marketing campaign, that is attached to that lead capture page, will remind them what your marketing message is over time.

Most prospects require 7 to 12 exposures to a marketing message before they buy whatever is being sold (which is why you will see the same ad over and over on television).

IF you don’t use a Lead Capture Page (and therefore don’t capture the contact information of your prospects), then prospects may visit your Sales Page or website, BUT they very likely will NOT RETURN to it. Studies have shown that the average person won’t return to a Sales Page or web page on their OWN (i.e. if they do not get an email directing them back to the Sales Page or web page). Therefore, prospects who do NOT go to a Lead Capture Page will only see your Sales Page or web page ONCE!
